With Mr. Monsy Joseph, P W D MinisterAs in the previous years, this year also we celebrated Pravasi Bharati Day with colourful programs in Kozhikode on 9th, 10th and 11th January, 2008. During the last five years it was celebrated in Trivandrum, Ernakulam and Kannur. These celebrations are organized by the leadership of Pravasi Bharathi News Bulletin and Indo-Arab Friendship Forum. Pravasi Bharathi Day is celebrated to honour NRIs who contribute for the development of our country. The Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Mr. K.Venkitapathy was the Chief Guest for the function, who inaugurated the function and distributed awards to prominent NRIs from different parts of the world and also to social leaders from our state.
On 9th, January there was an oath taking ceremony, for which the Worshipful Mayor of Kozhikode was the Chief Guest. On 10th, January there were two seminars, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. The Kozhikode MLA Mr. Rajan was the Chief Guest. Several NRIs actively participated in the discussions. And representatives from banking and financial institutions were also present.
On 10th January at 6 PM the valedictory function was held and hundreds of prominent NRIs, social leaders and businessmen participated in the function. People representing almost all political as well as social organizations participated in the function. Some of the dignitaries who received awards this year from us are Mr. O.Rajagopal, Former Union Defence Minister, Mr. K.Pankajakshan, Former State Minister, Mr. P.K.Rajan, (Sevanam, Dubai), Mr. P.N.C Menon (Chairman, Sobha Developers), Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan (CEO, Infosys), Mr. Vijayan Thomas (Chairman, Jaihind TV), Mr. Vijayan Nair (Dubai), Mr. Balachndran (Dubai), Mrs. Zareena Ashraf (Dubai), Adv. Sajid Aboobacker (Dubai), Mr. K.G.S.S Nair (Muscat), Mr. Sasidharan Kartha, Dr. Rajmohan Pillai, Mr. Anil Nambiar (Surya TV), Mr. Mukesh Nair (NDTV) etc.
